Bridging ecological health and economic viability in agriculture

Confluence Agriculture works with farmers, non-profits, and institutions to design regenerative systems that work – on the land and on the balance sheet.

What is Confluence?

Confluence Agriculture is a consulting practice dedicated to advancing resilient regenerative agriculture in Canada. We work with farmer organizations, non-profits, governments, and financial institutions to design practical, farmer-centred programs, build meaningful partnerships, and support the transitions that help producers thrive.

Our work brings producers to the center of decision-making – where they belong.

What We Do

Our work is organized around three core pillars:

Nuffield Reasearch

Global research identifying financing tools and economic frameworks that de-risk regenerative agriculture transitions for farmers and ranchers.

Horizons

Horizons is an uplifting two-day outdoor gathering that brings together over 300 farmers, researchers, agronomists, visionary food system thinkers, and engaged consumers to explore groundbreaking ideas for growing resilient prairie agriculture.

Strategic Consulting

Partnering with farmer organizations, non-profits, governments, and financial institutions to design practical, farmer-centred programs and transition strategies.

NUFFIELD RESEARCH

A global search for solutions

The Nuffield Canada Scholarship is one of the most prestigious leadership programs in global agriculture. Each year, only a small number of Canadians are selected to conduct international research on issues shaping the future of farming.

As a 2025 Nuffield Scholar, my research asks:

How can financing tools, incentive programs, and economic frameworks de-risk regenerative agriculture transitions for farmers and ranchers — not just in year one, but in year five and beyond?

I will travel to 8–10 countries investigating:

  • Blended finance models
  • Insurance and risk-mitigation tools
  • Farmer-led decision-making frameworks
  • Effective NGO, co-op, and extension program design

Farmers are clear: they want resilience. But resilience is impossible without economic certainty. This research will bring back practical models and case studies that strengthen Canadian agricultural programs.

HORIZONS

Horizons is a new two-day outdoor gathering bringing together farmers, researchers, agronomists, and food system thinkers to explore what actually works in building resilient prairie agriculture.

Hosted on a working Saskatchewan farm, Horizons is not a conference room event. It’s fields you can walk, soil you can touch, equipment you can test, and farmers you can learn from directly.

STRATEGIC CONSULTING

Strategic advisory services supporting farmer organizations, non-profits, governments, and financial institutions in designing regenerative agriculture programs that are practical, scalable, and economically viable.

Focus Areas

Regenerative Program Design

Incentive structures, grants, and payment-for-ecosystem-services programs designed for long-term adoption.

De-Risking Transition

Advising financial institutions on products and frameworks that support regenerative transitions.

Knowledge Mobilization

Workshops, presentations, and facilitation for producers, policymakers, and industry professionals.

Our Founder

Antonious Petro

Antonious Petro brings a rare combination of hands-on farming experience, scientific training, and national leadership to the work of regenerative agriculture in Canada.

He contributed to the foundation of Regeneration Canada and served as a CEO for four years helping build a national movement that advanced producer-led regenerative practices across the country. His work has focused on designing programs and partnerships that meet farmers where they are — practically, economically, and ecologically.

Antonious began farming in Egypt, where he spent over a decade working the land before economic pressures forced him out of agriculture. That experience shaped his lifelong commitment to ensuring farmers are never forced to choose between caring for the land and staying financially viable.

After immigrating to Canada, he completed a Master’s degree in Agriculture (Soil Sciences) at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, with research focused on soil carbon sequestration and perennial cover systems. He currently serves on the board of Farmers for Climate Solutions, representing over 17,000 farmers and ranchers.

In 2025, Antonious was selected as a Nuffield Canada Scholar, where his global research focuses on financing tools that de-risk regenerative transitions for farmers.
